30 years ago, on March 12, 1989 British engineer and computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee working for Europe's physics lab CERN, proposed a decentralised system of information management. It signalled the birth of the World Wide Web that is now used by billions of people. Now Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), he wrote a proposal for what would finally become the World Wide Web. The proposal was known as “Information Management: A Proposal”… His boss called it “Vague but exciting.” Google doodle: World Wide Web Anniversary: Google is celebrating it with a doodle that is reminder of how things were like in its early years. Difference between internet and Web: Most people tend to treat the Internet and the Web as synonymous. They, in fact while being related, are not. Internet refers to the vast networking infrastructure that connects millions of computers across the world and the World Wide Web is the worldwide collection of text pages, digital photographs, music files, videos, and animations, which users can access over the Internet. The Web uses the HTTP protocol to transmit data and is only a part of the Internet. The Internet includes a lot that is not necessarily the Web. the World Wide Web is an online application built upon innovations like HTML language, URL "addresses," and hypertext transfer protocol, or HTTP World wide web is made of 3 main component- 1) URL- Unique Resource Locator 2) HTTP- (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) 3) HTML- (Hypertext Markup Language) The web has become a public square, a library, a doctor’s office, a shop, a school, a design studio, an office, a cinema, a bank, and so much more. Of course with every new feature, every new website, the divide between those who are online and those who are not increases, making it all the more imperative to make the web available for everyone.
