This Independence Day, celebrate the colours of the Indian flag with these yummy Tiranga Cookies.
For the dough -
2 cups maida
6 tbsp unsalted butter
Orange food colour
Green food colour
8 tbsp milk
6 tbsp sugar
For the cream –
1 cup melted unsalted butter
1 cup icing sugar
2 tbsp dessicated coconut
Place 1 cup maida in a large bowl.
Make a well in the middle, and add 3 tbsp unsalted butter, 1 egg and orange food colour.
Beat everything together, then add 4 tbsp milk and 3 tbsp sugar.
Mix well to make a soft, orange cookie dough. Set it aside.
Repeat the same steps, add green food colour instead of the orange one, to make a green cookie dough.
Roll out the doughs and cut them into the shapes you want.
Place the cookies in a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees.
While the cookies are baking, mix melted unsalted butter, icing sugar and coconut in a separate bowl to make a white cream.
Once the cookies cool down completely, spread the white cream on top of a green cookie. Place an orange cookie on top.
Assemble all the other Tiranga Cookies similarly. The cookies can be served immediately, or refrigerated for 3-5 days.
